500 Miles ep
released in March 2002
We saw Shrek and it included the Proclaimers song I'm On My Way.
Chris and the band listened to their album Sunshine On Leith
and decided to home-record a cover of I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles).
Tim Victor produced the track on his VS1880 hard-disk thing.
Meanwhile Ian from Candidate remixed The English Earth,
producing a gentle psychedelic beat-led version.
Then we listened back to old live tapes and discovered
an intense 12 Bar Club show, when Chris played solo on
September 13, 2001. We picked two for this EP: Decksweep,
previously released on a Snowstorm Christmas compilation
and Open Books, which bookends Panic Attack.
Chris says he prefers both these live versions to studio
originals and also insisted the original album version
of The English Earth was included as well.
